As I write this link I am reminded that it was six years ago that the twin towers were hit with passenger planes filled with persons whose lives ended in such a horrible way. These individuals would be joined by nearly 2,700 others killed in the collapse of those buildings. The evil nature of those who killed these innocent people raised its head for all the world to see. Yet now after these six years the emotion and memory has faded a bit and we want to forget this great tragedy. We try to move beyond the struggles of the conflict in the Middle East and pretend that if we just overlook evil and hatred it will go away. Evil does not give up in the middle of a battle or struggle. Rather the will of those who are filled with goodness, hope and a spirit of humility - it is their wills that are tested. It is costly to stand for good and make efforts to make the world a better and safe place. Let me remind all of us there is no safe place in this world. Safety can only be found in the arms of God. Our world is broken. Being in Zimbabwe for two weeks and seeing their struggle has allowed me once again to see this same evil that raises its head there. So let us remember that tragic day in New York and Washington D.C. Let us remember the firemen, policemen and rescue workers who faced death and became heroes because they gave themselves for the good of others.
“Lord, today we pray a prayer of remembrance for those whose lives were forever changed by that day, September 11, 2001.”
Hope to see some of you at the 9:15 a.m. service on Sunday. This will be a new opportunity for worship and Sunday School for new folks as well as some of our regulars who see these as a helpful time schedule. Pray for this new service.
I ask you to begin praying for our revival Oct. 21-24 and our preacher, Dr. Jim Jackson.
I saw this quote. “The final challenge is not to study prayer or think about prayer, but to practice praying, for it is a means of grace and hope and help in the Lord.”
