There is a chorus that we sing about seeking the heart of God and allowing Him to know our heart. Can we know the attributes of God’s heart? I think we can. We must look at the biblical stories and at God’s responses to His people as revealed in the scriptural accounts. Jesus helps us see the heart of God as we look at His life and His teachings concerning His Father. I think Jesus helped us see the divine generosity of the Lord as is shown through His acts of goodness and mercy. John Wesley spoke of holy love. The Spanish writer Cervantes put it in these words, “Among the attributes of God, although they are equal, mercy shines with even more brilliancy than justice.” The Good News for us is that God is above our ability to define Him or leverage Him in anyway. We do see that God is holy and loves mercy. This is the base point for all that we are about as the church. We are to offer the world and all its people the love we have experienced and the joy of the mercy of the Lord. God has given us this wonderful gift of Grace through His Son, Jesus. The entire world needs to be told of this gift for all of humanity.
This Sunday morning we will have a special prayer time for Kelly and Emily Marcus as they offer themselves for a year of missionary service as volunteers at our Orphanage in Guatemala. They will live in the apartment and work daily with the care and education of our 21 children there. What a joyous responsibility this is. Please read the insert letter in this link about their plans and needs.
Also beginning this week, we begin praying for our revival with Dr. Jim Jackson from Texas. He will be our evangelist and lead us in these opportunities of worship and renewal. Special plans are being made for our whole church family to share in these specials days, October 21-24. Also pray for Tommy Tombs who will work with our children each evening as well.
May the Lord be near each of us this week and help us experience his love and mercy and call us to reflect on the joy of being His witness to the transforming grace which is a gift to all His children.
See you Sunday. Pastor Jerry
