    I want to take a moment and say a word of thanks to all those folks who volunteered and helped with the Alcoa Event at Springbrook Park. It took 125 or more people to man the booths and pick-up the rubbish. This two-day event helps raise funds that will aid two programs. The William Blount Singers and the Fairview Upward Basketball Program will receive about $4000 for this effort. These funds will help with scholarships for children who cannot afford the entry fee and uniforms for Upward. So to all those who helped a big THANK YOU is deserved.
Sometimes we find our selves drawn in several directions in service opportunities. Someone asked me what I felt God thought about how much time and in what ways we are to share our time. Sometimes I think we are like a short saying I found, “Activity itself proves nothing: the ant is praised, the mosquito swatted.” I think what the Lord would have us be about in use of our time is closer to the thought of Henry David Thoreau who shared, “It is not enough to be busy; so are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about?  Let our time be used for the Kingdom of God’s sake and giving witness of His love and grace.
This month many opportunities will be given to serve at the church. A couple of those are found in the care of our Orphanage and mission projects. A food booth will be at the Fall Festival. This fund will help Samaritan Hands, a Mission partner of Fairview, to care for children in different countries. The Pumpkin Patch is another project for Missions.  If you can be of help, check with Lisa Counts or Jennifer Walker.                 Pastor Jerry

The poem of Annie Flint is one to reflect on.

Christ has no hands but our hands
To do his work today;
He has no feet but our feet to lead men in his way;
He has no tongues but our tongues
To tell men how He died;
He has no help but our help, to bring them to His side.
