Advent is a time for preparation and expectancy of the coming of the Messiah, which we as Christians believe was Jesus, born to Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem. This makes this season one that is filled with excitement and wonder. This is one of those special times each year when the world ponders the birth of Christ. Many places and people only use the days as a form of sharing gifts with others or times for parties and celebrations. Yet at the very heart of the season is the birth of a savior that brings peace to the human heart.  That is the source that allows us to live in peace with others. Someone has declared, “Where there is peace, God is.” I believe this to be true and I think the song the angles sang was at the heart of this season,” Luke 2:14, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”
Herbert Hoover said, (and I believe he is correct)
“Peace is not made at the council tables, or by treaties, but in the hearts of men.”

This week in our service pause for a moment for a special prayer for peace.
Peace with God within our inner selves
Peace within our families and closest relationships
           Peace within our churches
Peace within our villages, communities, cities
           Peace within our nation
           Peace within our nations
           Peace for all God’s Creation.

1Peter 3:11 “Let them seek peace and pursue it” and in doing so we will find
the way that leads us to the one born in Bethlehem the prince of Peace Jesus.
Pray for Peace today.

P.S. Remember there are five great enemies to peace: greed, ambition, envy, anger, and pride. Let none of these be a part of our Advent and Christmas celebration. Ask the Holy Spirit to alert you if any one of these appears. Then deal with it quickly. Don’t let anything or anyone steal your peace or keep you from being a peacemaker.
