Costa Rica teams leave each year on Christmas Day to visit a country about the size of West Virginia. While it boasts of some of the most beautiful beaches and forests in the world, Costa Rica has struggled to advance into the 21st century due to a lack of resources.
Teaming with Centro Rural Methodista (Methodist Rural Center), Fairview engages in construction projects around the region. Medical and dental teams visit nearby communities to provide basic healthcare.
In a country where the distribution of income remains largely unequal and poverty is prevalent, Guatemala ranks among the lowest in Latin America for life expectancy and highest for infant mortality. Nearly twenty years ago, Fairview began a relationship with the people of Chichicastenango which has become a lifelong friendship.
Samaritan Hands has established an orphanage called The Hogar del Nino (The House for Children) near Santa Cruz del Quiche, about 3 hours northwest of Guatemala City. Each year in late May or early June we have taken a construction team to work on building churches and the upkeep of the orphanage. Medical teams set up daily clinics in various parts of the region to meet the needs of those who would otherwise not receive medical care. Another group provides Vacation Bible School for the children each morning and afternoon.
If you are willing to live in a simple, rustic environment, willing to share God’s love in word and deed, and committed to work together to reach the goals of the team, you should consider joining us! This trip is a wonderful experience. The children at the orphanage will capture your heart, and it is a place of beauty and wonder.
